Should antiviral medications be taken with food?
Oseltamivir (Tamiflu), zanamivir (Relenza), and Baloxavir (Xofluza) can be taken with or without food.
Avoid taking baloxavir (Xofluza) with dairy products, calcium fortified beverages, polyvalent cation-containing laxatives, antacids, or oral supplements (e.g. calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium, or zinc). Baloxavir (Xofluza) may form a chelate with polyvalent cations such as calcium, aluminum, or magnesium and may decrease plasma concentrations of baloxavir, which may reduce efficacy.
