What is Paxlovid?

Paxlovid [pax-LOW-vid] is an antiviral medication developed by Pfizer pharmaceutical company. It’s used for patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are at high risk for developing severe symptoms or being hospitalized from COVID-19.

Paxlovid works by preventing the virus that causes COVID-19 from reproducing in your body. 

Possible side effects of Paxlovid include: 

  • altered or impaired sense of taste 
  • diarrhea
  • increased blood pressure
  • muscle aches
