What should I do if I am exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19?
If you were in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you should start taking precautions immediately, regardless of your vaccination status.
1. Wear a high-quality mask or respirator (N95) any time you are around others inside your home or indoors in public
2. Take extra precautions if you will be around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19
3. Monitor your symptoms for symptoms of COVID-19:
- Fever (100.4°F or greater)
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Other COVID-19 symptoms
- Isolate immediately
- Get tested
- If you test positive, follow isolation procedures
- Stay home until you know your test result
5. Take COVID-19 test 5 full days after your last exposure
- Test even if you don't have symptoms
- If you test positive, follow isolation procedures
- If you test negative, continue to wear a high-quality mask around others at home and indoors in public until day 10
You can still develop COVID-19 up to 10 days after you have been exposed.
