If I have an autoimmune disease, can I get the COVID vaccine?

Experts do not yet know enough about the safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for people who have weakened immune systems. While people living with HIV and other autoimmune diseases were included in clinical trials, safety data specific to this group are not yet available at this time.

People with autoimmune conditions may receive an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. However, there is the potential for reduced immune responses to the vaccine. People with weakened immune systems should continue following all current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to protect themselves against COVID-19.
