I had side effects from the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Should I still get the second dose?

If you had common symptoms, such as pain or swelling at the injection site, fever, chills, tiredness, or headache, you should still receive your second dose at the intended time.

However, if you had an immediate allergic reaction (within four hours after getting vaccinated) or a severe allergic reaction, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you speak to your healthcare provider before getting the second dose.*
