Why are boosters offered?

Although COVID-19 vaccination can prevent severe disease, evidence suggests that vaccination becomes less effective over time. This may be due to a decrease in protection as the vaccine wears off as well as new variants that may be more infectious. 

Booster doses have received emergency use authorization (EUA) by the FDA to help increase vaccine efficacy.
